Richard Harwood, a reporter for the Washington Post, said he was at the Ambassador Hotel during the evening of June 4 and early morning of June 5, 1968. He heard four or five shots about 12:15 am and rushed to the Embassy Room, where he saw a large group of hysterical people.

Paul Hope, a correspondent for the Washington Star newspaper, said he was in the press headquarters located in the Colonial Room of the hotel when shots were fired. He immediately rushed out to see what had happened and saw a man later identified as Sirhan Sirhan struggling with several persons.

Thadis Heath, a volunteer worker for Senator Robert F. Kennedy, said he was in the Embassy Room of the Ambassador Hotel during Kennedy's speech on June 4, 1968. He noticed that Kennedy shook hands with several employees in the kitchen area and then heard shots fired.

The suspect, later identified as Sirhan Sirhan, was being held on a hotel serving table while a crowd of angry persons were screaming to kill him. The suspect was taken out of the hotel through the press room, which was the Colonial Room.
