</s>674 Juvenile and the Psychiatric Division have been under my 1 2 supervisor's control. 2 As far as the duties are concerned, until just 3 two years ago I was not only responsible for the division but 4 we had divided up the work of the Criminal Division so that 5 6 I remained in direct charge of the Court Clerical Unit and 7 my Assistant Chief was in charge of an office clerical unit and 8 Just recently we had an additional person become 9 what we call the Head of Court Services and that person is in 10 charge of the court Clercial Group. So I don't have the direct 10 contact with the Court Clinical Group. That I don't have the director 12 12 As a part of my duties I have three levels of 13 supervision above me, which whom I must maintain contact and 14 liaison. 15 We have many meetings, discussing the departmental 16 policies, working out the departmentatal policies, correlating 17 division policies with those of the different departments. 18 I'm responsible for maintain liaison between the 19 division and other county departments. 20 I deal -- this past week, for example, I had a 21 meeting with the Assistant Chief of the Bureau of Criminal 22 Statistics, who came down from Sacramento with a team of two 23 others, and I have to deal with the Judges. 24 I have to dealt with the Appellate Court, with the 25 Supreme Court. I deal with The Probation Department and also 26 with certain internal departmental policies. 27 I deal with other state agencies. Peter J. Talmachoff, a County Clerk's Office employee, testified before the Grand Jury about the handling of exhibits in the Sirhan case.

Talmachoff stated that he had been involved in reviewing the work done by the Court Clerks' Office on the Sirhan case and that they had found clerical errors when going through viewing slips. He mentioned that Mr. Buckley had made a statement where Talmachoff said he shouldn't have shown something to someone, but Talmachoff couldn't recall the incident or what exhibit was being referred to.

Talmachoff also discussed the personnel issues in his department, stating that they were trying to fill a top-level position and that Mr. Buckley wasn't suitable for it. He mentioned that he had personally made efforts to make the personnel more aware of the problems but that Mr. Buckley's deficiencies or alleged deficiencies meant that under other supervision, the custodian clerks might do better.

Talmachoff stated that he was satisfied with Mr. Walker's performance and thought he had more potential than anyone else in the division. He also mentioned that Mr. Walker had been highly pleased with him for getting him into the division.

The Grand Jury asked Talmachoff if he knew of any irregularities in handling the exhibits in the Sirhan case, to which he replied "no." However, he did mention that there was one thing on his mind and believed it might be related to Mr. Buckley's statement.

Talmachoff also discussed the duties and responsibilities of the chief and assistant chief custodians if a senior exhibit custodian were required, stating that they didn't have such positions but rather a supervising exhibit custodian and an acting supervising custodian, currently Mr. Buckley.

The Grand Jury then offered all the exhibits into evidence to bear the same numbers as when they were offered for identification before the Grand Jury.

Mr. Hecht suggested that the Grand Jurors go down to the 4th Floor and view the places where all these exhibits have been kept, which might be helpful in their deliberations.

The Grand Jury took a break for lunch and resumed at 1:30, after which the District Attorney may make a statement to the Grand Jury if he desires to do so.
