John Howard, Chief Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County, testified before the Grand Jury regarding his official connection with the prosecution of People v. Sirhan Bishara Sirhan.

The Grand Jury hearing was used as a background for security reasons due to the custodial problem and security of exhibits after the assassination on June 5th.

Exhibits presented included:

* A .22 caliber revolver found at the crime scene
* Six casings and two live bullets from the gun
* Two pieces of bullet fragments, .22 calibre bullet fragments from the head area of Senator Kennedy's body
* Spent bullet found in the dead man's cervical vertebra

Test bullets were fired into a water tank for comparison with the bullets from the other victims.

The Grand Jury investigation revealed that exhibits had been transferred from the Clerk's Office to the Supreme Court, and a Court Order was issued by Judge Alarcon in 1968 restricting access to the exhibits.

Judge Walker testified that he did not intend for non-attorney representatives like William W. Harper to have unlimited access to the original exhibits.

The Grand Jury also heard testimony from Mrs. Joyce Shannon regarding the handling of exhibits in the Sirhan case, and a representative of the defense was given virtually unlimited access to the original exhibits after showing a letter addressed to Mr. Robert Sours.

David N. Pitts served as one of the Deputy District Attorneys assigned to the investigation and trial of People v. Sirhan Bishara Sirhan.

Judge Walker issued a Court Order on May 20, 1969, to preserve the integrity of and safeguard the exhibits in the Sirhan case.
