From early 1967 thru February of 1968, I was connected with the Hotel Green, in Pasadena, California. The hotel had been taken over and renovated by a group of Jordanian and Palestinian Arabs, and I had bought into the operation. I had the food and beverage concessions. The power behind the hotel purchase was supplied by an elderly woman named Selma George, who was married to a much younger militant Arab named Joe George.

The old lady was only concerned with the development of the hotel, but her husband was a complete fanatic about the Israel situation and most violently anti-Semitic. Due to my need to protect the investors behind me, I had to listen to his constant flow of venom regarding the Israeli-Arab conflict.

I noticed that Joe began to hold meetings in the dining room of the hotel, attended by six to eight of the most somber-looking men I had seen. The conversation was always in Arabic, so we were unable to pick up any of what they were discussing.

On many occasions, they would enter the hotel through the bar entrance and go up to the back stairway to one of the empty rooms, where they would remain for hours, sending down for refreshments.

As much as I have been "around" during my long career, I could smell something very phony in the wind. My connection with the hotel was severed in early '68 after I was subpoenaed to appear before the President's Crime Commission, in Buffalo, New York.

I took the 5th but when I returned to California, the heat made it impossible for me to continue in the bar business. I stayed close to the people, however, since I did retain a silent interest in the operation.

After the assassination of RFK in June '68, I was at the Green for the celebration held by Joe and his people. It disgusted me, but when I saw the pictures in the papers of Sirhan, my disgust turned to anger. But when I saw the photographs in the papers of Sirhan, my those who had been meeting with Joe for all those months as being one of them !! Absolutely no question in my mind at all!

To me this was a dirty game, particularly since I had long been a Kennedy man. I went to two cops I knew quite well, Gene Sherrer and Jack Horrall, both of Los Angeles P.D. Intelligence Division.

I told Sherrer the full story. They had known me for years and knew damned well I was no crackpot publicity seeker, in fact, the last thing I wanted was to have my name publicly mentioned in this connection.

They also knew that when I made somebody as I did Sirhan, I was not mistaken. They agreed to check on the tip. Several weeks later, I met the old lady, Selma George, who told me the F.B.I. had been to see her regarding Sirhan .. She told them he used to live across the street from then in Jordan, or Palestine, I don't recall which) but not checked to them that she hadn't seen him for a long time.

They did not indicate into Joe George, nor did they check out the print shop on Sunset that Joe had taken me to on two occasions and where I had also seen that Joe held meeting. The feds made no further investigation of the matter nor was it ever made public that such a connection was possible.

I later spoke to Gene Sherr about the failure of the Feds to act on the stuff and was told by him it would be best if I kept my mouth shut about the whole mess. I knew them well enough to know what it was was telling me, and they knew, me well enough TO know I would pick up on the tip and lay off.

In reading your book, I looked for mention of the Green Hotel, and the .. only clue I could find was in the meanderings of Sirhan in his notebook. Note on page 566, bottom of the page, he has written his address as, 696 E. Green St ., just below his proper address, 696 B. Howard.

Also, on page 571, bottom page center, the word Green is again written. Was there any explanation of this? The mystery of the Peds refusal to follow up on Joe George always stayed with me, being aware of the phony bit involved.

I heard later that Joe returned to Jordan. I had too many personal problems to press the issue any further, and in the police felt secure I would allow ito slide into oblivion. This I did until your book aroused my curious nature.
