He advised shortly after midnight 3n June 5, 1968 , he was working in the Enbassy Room of the hotel and heard whar sounded like shots being fired 9 although there had been a consistent popp of balloons which made abjut the same s Dund He stated that he heard what he thought was four or five shats fired in rapid succession, hwwever , he was about 70 yerds away when this occurred and consequently , did not see the &ctual shooting_ He stated 'there were many people milling around and , a few minutes later when he was ab le to 39 over to where the shooting occurred, he saw ROBERT F ,. s hand , or rather the Senator was just letting go of his hand after having greeted him 9 when he heard 2 noise which sounded to him like a gun shot or a fire cracker He stated that he turned his head and saw the man later identified a8 SIRHAN SIRHAN 9 waving his arm with an ob ject in his hand which PEREZ recognized as a revolver He stated he saw the individual with the gun fire severa 1 more shots just 38 several men grabbed him in an attempt to subdue him and take away the pistol PEREZ stated that his first thought was that the man was simply making noise and wa ving his arm to get people out of the Senator's way , but that he qui ckly realized that he was actua firing the gun He s talted that after seeing the man partially subdued by others 3 he turned to look back at Senator KENNEDY and saw that both the Senator and one other individua1 had fallen to the floor PEREZ advised that at this point many people crowded around KENNEDY and that PEREZ backed up slightly into the crowd to make room for those who would have to care for the wounded _ He 8 tated that everyone was yelling and milling about and calling for the police and an ambulance, and that in a few minutes the ambulance came and the {Senator wa8 taken out 242 lly he , ================================================== Page 49 ================================================== TA 56-156 PEREZ reca lled at this pint that when he had Seen 8 IRHAN prior to the shooting in the pantry 9 he appeared to be alone and that at no time did he 9 PEREZ see anyone else who appeared to know or be accompanying SIRHAN _ PEREZ stated that while SIRHAN wa8 shooting the last several shots he appeared to be sajing some thing_ 9 but that he 9 PEREZ could not iake out what SIRHAN said because of the noise of the crowd_ He further stated that after having seen SIRHAN subdued by other men , he did not see him again_ PEREZ stated that he had no idea how many people had actua been in the pantry and hall during the shooting inasmuch a8s everyone including the pre8s and the onlookers 2 had been coming and going during the entire evening- PEREZ advised that shortly after the ambulance had taken Senator KENNEDY away , a detective from the Los Angele8 Police Department took him to the Rampart Division Office in Los Angeles where he was interviewed and then taken to the hotel from where he proceeded to his home PEREZ advised that he had appeared before the Los Angeles County Grand Jury and that he had identified a photograph of STRHAN SIRHAN a8 being the same individua1 that he saw shooting the gun in the pantry at the Ambassador Hotel He stated tha t should he recall any further information tha t he feels wuld ke d interest to the FBI, he would immediately contact the Los Angeles Office 243 lly ================================================== Page 50 ================================================== FD-3 02 (Rev. 4-15-64 ) FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGA TION 6/14/68 Date LORENZO VINSON PERKTNS Housekeeper_ Ambassador Hotel, 3400 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Ange les _ 9 California, advis ed he resides at 1016 Dewey Avenue , Los Angeles , and his home tel ephone number is 383-7663.
